Walk & Talk Therapy
Walk and Talk Therapy is as simple as it sounds. Instead of sitting in my office or staring at a screen, we get outside -- to walk & talk.
This allows us to work on your goals while experiencing the great benefits of being outdoors. This can be a great option for adolescents, those with a lot of energy or those who are uncomfortable with the idea of sitting & trying to maintain eye contact through an entire session.
There are many that show how beneficial being outside is for our mental health and well-being. Unfortunately, because of our many obligations, we often feel stuck inside and struggle to find the time/motivation to get out and get fresh air. My location (click here to read more about that) is ideal for this kind of therapy -- safe and peaceful with lots of nature.
Some believe that forward physical movement encourages forward psychological movement and accelerates breakthroughs. It's well known that the endorphins we receive from purposeful movement and with being outside have a noticeably positive impact on mental health.
If you're interested, we will have a discussion about this option to see if it's the right fit for you and your therapeutic goals. As well, the purpose is not to get your blood pumping and send you off into the world drenched in sweat -- to me, this is more of a mindfulness technique. I'm not going to be speed walking or taking you on a 9-mile hike through questionable terrains (I don't want to be drenched in sweat either, trust me).
A few more words:
This is not meant to be considered an exercise session, the focus is still on processing and meeting therapeutic goals.
If we plan to have a walk and talk session but the weather isn't looking ideal -- we'll make a call when you arrive as to whether we do the session in my office or walk.
If you are not able to do walk and talk therapy but want the benefits of being outdoors, we can discuss this -- I have an outdoor space we can utilize.
