Neurodivergent-Affirming Assessments
An assessment process that exists to understand your neurotype, not debate it.
For adults who have spent years wondering whether anxiety, trauma, ADHD, Autism, OCD, burnout, sensory overload, or masking explains their experience, assessment can help organize the picture. Many people come to this process after doing hours of research, taking online screeners, talking with other neurodivergent friends, or recognizing themselves in their child’s diagnosis and thinking, “Okay… maybe this is me too.”
My assessment process is collaborative, conversational, trauma-informed, and neurodivergent-affirming. I approach Autism, ADHD, OCD, and other neurodivergent experiences as meaningful differences in how a person’s brain and nervous system work, not as character flaws or deficits to be corrected. Assessment should not feel like someone is looking for everything “wrong” with you.
I take your research, lived experience, history, sensory needs, masking, trauma, identity, and support needs seriously. Traditional assessments can miss people who make eye contact, hold a conversation, mask well, and are described using harmful labels such as “high-functioning” while internally working incredibly hard to get through daily life. My goal is to help sort through what fits, what does not, and what support may actually be useful in a way that feels respectful, useful, and grounded.
About this type of assessment
My assessments are clinical diagnostic assessments completed by a master’s-level Licensed Professional Counselor with diagnostic privilege in Alaska and Oregon. This means I can assess and diagnose ADHD, Autism, OCD, cPTSD, and other DSM diagnoses within my scope of practice. These assessments can often support personal clarity, treatment planning, coordination with other providers, and many school or workplace accommodation requests.
They do not include neuropsychological testing, IQ testing, or academic testing. Some schools, workplaces, government programs, disability systems, or legal/medical settings may require evaluation by a doctoral-level psychologist, neuropsychologist, psychiatrist, or physician. If you need documentation for a specific purpose, it is important to check those requirements before beginning.
The assessment process involves talking, reflection, and some sustained attention, but we can take breaks as needed. You are welcome to bring fidgets, comfort items, snacks, water, notes, or anything else that helps you feel more comfortable and regulated.
Developmental history is part of the assessment, but family involvement is not required.
If it feels helpful and safe, we can discuss whether to include input from a parent, sibling, partner, friend, teacher, or someone else who knew you earlier in life.
Accessibility & Fit
These slides share a general overview of my overall assessment process; however, I try to be as flexible as possible. Some folks want to do less, longer appointments and others want to do more, shorter appointments.
Additionally, some folks may wish to have the assistance of body-doubling to get through the intake paperwork and I'm happy to accommodate that if that request is made ahead of time.
I want to make sure that no one feels rushed or overwhelmed by the process as it can become time intensive.
I believe assessment should be more accessible than it often is. At the same time, assessment requires significant clinical time, scoring, synthesis, and documentation. My listed fees reflect the time and care involved in the entire process as I tend to spend anywhere from 6-12 hours total on each client depending on the service chosen.
